Toyota just keeps tinkering with its Supra sports car. The reborn icon arrived first for the 2020 model year as a mechanical twin to the BMW Z4 and with one engine offering—a stout BMW-sourced turbo 3.0-liter inline-six—but was heavily updated just one model year later with a revised suspension, more power for the I-6, and the addition of a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder option. 2021 also saw the introduction of the A91 Edition, a special model limited to 1,000 units.
For 2022, the A91 goes carbon fiber with the, er, A91-Carbon Fiber Edition, a North America exclusive of which just 600 examples will be built (and on which we first reported in July). Building on the 2021 A91, the A91-CF applies the woven material to the rocker panels, front splitter and canards, lower rear fascia, and duckbill spoiler. It rolls on unique 19-inch matte wheels, and can be ordered in Phantom matte gray, Absolute Zero White, or Nitro Yellow. The interior gets sport pedals, an exclusive red and black Alcantara and leather colorway, and red stitching on the seats, and is—of course!—trimmed with carbon fiber.
Changes across the wider Supra lineup include standard heated seats in 3.0 models, full-screen Apple CarPlay functionality for cars with premium audio, and a new red interior option for 3.0 Premium cars. In addition, every buyer of the 2022 Supra gets a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association (NASA), a high-performance driving organization that sanctions club racing and autocross events, among other activities. One free NASA HPDE (high performance driving event) track day with instruction is included, as is discounted admission to other NASA events.
Pricing for the 2022 Supra is as follows, and represents modest increases for all models except the A91-CF, which is more than $7,000 pricier than last year’s non-carbon A91.
