Stanley Johnson appeared on GB News to discuss the latest events at the Cop26 conference. The conversation quickly turned to Greta Thunberg and her campaigning against the event where the climate change activist slammed world leaders for not doing enough and only addressing the environment because it was a “PR exercise”. But Mr Johnson backed the young activist, stating she has inspired many through her actions in a passionate defence against Ms Thunberg’s critics.

Speaking on GB News, Mr Johnson joined Alastair Stewart as they debated the Cop26 conference.

Mr Stewart asked the climate-conscious Mr Johnson for his take on Greta Thunberg’s activism and remarked perhaps he needed to push her to be more “balanced”.

But Mr Johnson leapt to her defence and said: “Well, you got to hand it to her, I do hand it to her.

“Why has this thing, why has this movement really taken off?

“It is partly because what she did with her Friday for Future [protests] two or three years ago has really caught the imagination of youth.

“You got to see, it’s our generation… which has partly caused the problem in the same way it’s our world, which has caused the problem.

“So we’ve got an intergenerational thing and we’ve got a north-south thing and that is what Greta has focused on.”

Mr Johnson added the young population who are concerned over climate change will soon become voters and it will be in the best interests of political parties to capitalise on that.

He also believed politicians would be more driven to introduce climate change solutions following the Cop26 conference as much momentum has been built.

Protesters and guest speakers have demonstrated across the UK and other countries as Cop26 reaches its halfway line.

Greta Thunberg delivered a speech on Friday to protesters stating Cop26 was a “PR exercise” and that she was tired of “blah, blah, blah”.

At the beginning of the conference, Ms Thunberg tweeted: “#COP26 has been named the must excluding COP ever.

“This is no longer a climate conference. This is a Global North greenwash festival. A two-week celebration of business as usual and blah blah blah.”

Thousands took to the streets of Glasgow, Birmingham and London but were unfortunately hampered by the weather meaning some stages were unable to be set up.

The organisers of the protests claim 200 demonstrations were carried out across the world on Saturday.
