Mr Williams told the House of Commons of Wednesday how the vile attack by a pack of unruly yobs left his Welsh constituency staff terrified. The Tory MP for Montgomeryshire outlined how 16-panes of glass had been smashed at his Welshpool office but the yobs “luckily” did not enter the premises. He went on to praise his staff and police for dealing with the incident but called for more protection of parliamentary workers. One person has been arrested in relation to the incident.

The MP said: “I would like to pay tribute to my parliamentary team.

“It is with great sadness I report to the House my constituency office was attacked this morning.

“I pay tribute to the police for dealing with it incredibly quickly.

“Luckily they did not gain entrance but did break 16 panes of glass.”

Mr Williams added how the violent yobs “of course scared the parliamentary team” who have no protection like MP’s do.

He explained: “Across the House our teams work day in day out without necessarily the protection this House affords us now.

“And I just wanted to put on the record my thanks to them.

“And the police for dealing with it so quickly.”

Accrording to the Guido Fawkes blog, a constituent has been arrested in relation to the crime.

The site reported: “Sources claiming the culprit was connected with an anti-racism protest.

“Guido understands the individual was arrested by the police and no one in Williams’ office was harmed.”

But people reacted in fury on Twitter at the news and expressed their anger at the thuggish behaviour.

One person tweeted: “Time these people were actually arrested and prosecuted. Total and absolute thugs.”

While another said: “These people don’t deserve to be scared to go to work. What is the matter with you??

“If you don’t like an MP you vote them out like grown ups. Scaring their staff is how thugs behave. Don’t be a thug.”

The news comes as another Welsh MP, Rob Roberts, also had his constituency windows smashed this week – Rob Roberts’s office denied the attack on his office was targeted.
