Boris Johnson warned Keir Starmer he risked being “hoist on his own petard” if he persisted on questioning the Government’s levelling up agenda for the north of the UK. Sir Keir claimed the Prime Minister was going to “betray” people across the north of the country if he were to push ahead with a U-turn on developing the eastern leg of HS2. Mr Johnson told the Labour leader during Prime Minister’s Questions:” I’m afraid the Right Honourable Gentleman is in danger of getting hoist on his own petard.
“He needs to wait and see what we announce tomorrow because I think he will find the people of the northeast, of the northwest, of Leeds, of Nottingham, of Sheffield, the people of the whole of the Northwest and the northeast of this country will benefit massively from what we’re going to announce.”
