Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon claimed that England will follow Scotland “over the next few days” by imposing hospitality restictions. In Scotland’s central belt, all licenced bars and restaurants will be required to close indoors and outdoors from 6pm this evening. Ms Sturgeon appeared to pre-empt Mr Johnson’s leadership, by claiming England “will follow us” with similar action.
During her handling of the coronavirus in Scotland, Ms Sturgeon has been criticised for trying to take action before the rest of the UK.
She told her daily briefing this afternoon: “It is not a decision for me, but I suspect we will see similar action being taken in other parts of the UK over the next few days.
“We have already seen it in Ireland, Brussels, parts of France, Berlin right now.
“All of them, and many more I didn’t mention, are introducing restrictions on hospitality to keep people from mixing.”
