The former Prime Minister insisted the Conservative Party needs to address much more than claims of partying during the lockdown as Boris Johnson faces mounting pressure over his conduct. The Prime Minister is awaiting the results of an inquiry on his behaviour during the coronavirus pandemic over allegations of rule breaches at Number 10. Asked about his forecast for Mr Johnson’s future, Gordon Brown said: “This is indeed about standards in public life.

“We know the Government is immobilised and despite what Dominic Raab says, the attention that is needed for the cost of living crisis, for the schools, for obviously Afghanistan, Ukraine, for all the problems that are besetting the health service…

“Attention has veered to deal with these particular scandals.

“My fear is scandal is going to follow Boris Johnson for as long as he is Prime Minister.”

Mr Brown continued: “We don’t just have the scandal, and all the details will probably come out later this week.

“We have the conflict of interest, we have dubious appointments, we have foreign money and question marks about that.

“Who’s paying the bills for what?

“And I don’t think we’re going to see this administration end in anything other than scandal.”
