Wizz Air launches cheap flights to Grenoble from £12.99 in time for ski holidays

Brits thinking about last-minute ski holidays this winter could end up hitting the slopes without needing to break the bank.

That's because budget airline Wizz Air has launched new flights from London Gatwick to ski travel hub Grenoble, with fares starting from just £12.99 each way.

The French airport is an ideal travel hub that has easy links to heaps of brilliant ski resorts such as Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Alpe d'Huez and Les Arcs, all usually within two hours of reach.

The new flights will be available on Saturdays and Sundays, and you can already book on the Wizz Air Website – although the cheapest seats are subject to availability.

Sadly the £12.99 price tag won't include much luggage – simply one small carry-on bag (max: 40x30x20cm) such as a handbag or laptop bag.

If you want to bring a second bag for the overhead locker, you can opt to upgrade to a WIZZ Priority booking which includes an additional cabin bag measuring no more than 55x40x23cm and weighing no more than 10kg. Alternatively you can also pay to add checked luggage to your booking.

Those bringing their own skis/sports equipment will also be charged an extra fee which can range between £40.50-£58 – you can find out more on the Wizz Air website here.

Still, if you can snap up one of the cheap £12.99 fares going, it could still work out to be budget-friendly overall, especially if you're not bringing your own equipment.

There's more good news for avid skiers looking for a bargain break, as Europe's best value ski resorts for 2023 were recently revealed.

The research by The Post Office looked at the average cost of a ski resort holiday including the cost of ski and boot hire, lift passes, ski school, lunch on the slopes and multiple drinks choices.

It was Borovets in Bulgaria which took the top spot, with a total adding up to £506 – with ski hire for just £77 and ski school £95.99, and a ski pass costing around £208.

The cost for food and drink was £123 all in making it the best value resort in Europe for UK holidaymakers.
