BBC Weather Europe: Temperatures to fall as ‘heavy rain’ descends on continent

BBC Weather meteorologist Chris Fawkes warned that temperatures across Europe at the weekend will be similar to winter climate due to an area of low pressure moving across the continent. Spain and Portugal will see some showers while Germany will experience sunshine in patches over the next two days. Mr Fawkes also warned a front bearing colder air will be making its way through Europe the whole of Sunday, resulting in patches of persistent rain.

Mr Fawkes said: “The weather is going to be turning much colder across northern Europe as we head into this weekend.

“It is feeling cold for this time of year, more like winter.

“We have seen some strong winds and even some snow affecting Italy thanks to an area of low pressure.

“Pressure will stay low across much of the Mediterranean.

“We are looking at further showers this weekend.

“But it is not as wet as it has been in Italy.”

The BBC meteorologist continued: “Working further eastwards more persistent rain is on the way to parts of Turkey.

“It will turn cooler as cloud works its way in.

“For Spain and Portugal, it will be quite dry with showers across southern areas.

“We are looking at some sunshine for Germany.

“But it is getting significantly colder in Scandinavia.

“There is a cold front working across Europe on Sunday that will bring outbreaks of rain.”

Mr Fawkes added: “Heavier rain will push across Greece and into western areas of Turkey as we end the week.

“Over the next few days, Madrid is looking dry with some sunshine.

“It’s quite mild for a time this weekend but it does turn more unsettled next week.

“There’ll be cloud and rain around with temperatures certainly falling quiet a bit.

“In Kyiv, it is mild over the next few days with some sunshine but turning generally a bit cloudier this weekend.”
