BBC Weather: Heatwave to blast UK on Friday ahead of freak Arctic SNOW showers at weekend

BBC Weather’s Matt Taylor said the springtime conditions will be out in full force this week as Britons are set to bask in a mini-heatwave before freezing Arctic winds send the country back into wintry weather, with “snow showers in northeast Scotland”. After a peak of 25C in London on Friday, Scotland will see snow showers on Sunday. Mr Taylor said: “It is the season of spring and a season where we would see some drastic turnaround weather conditions and that’s certainly the case this week and weekend.

“Friday, VE day, could see temperatures right into the high teens or 20s possibly even as high as 25C.

“But here comes that turnaround, as we go through the weekend a rush of cold Arctic air coming down from the north taking us through Saturday night into Sunday.

“By Sunday many of us will be struggling to leave double figures so, it’s going to be a big wardrobe change on the way for later this week.

“Out there this morning even though things are set to warm up later, it’s a bit of a chilly start with a bit of frost on the ground in Suffolk.

“But while some of you are waking up to a frosty start it is a sunny start by and large.

“A little bit of patchy cloud across east Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and one or two showers in Cornwall and fairly grey across Shetland.

“For most it’s a day of sunshine from start to finish, strong sunshine at that.”

Mr Taylor forecast a drastic change in the weather across the weekend sending temperatures plummeting on Saturday night.

Friday will be dry and warm for most with spells of sunshine, although cloudier for Scotland and Northern Ireland with some showers or spells of rain at times.

Mostly cloudy and cooler in the north on Saturday, with rain at times.

Warm with sunny spells in the south but with the risk of some sharp showers.

He continued: “As we go through Friday night and then into the weekend, we gradually see this cold front moving southwards bringing some outbreaks of rain.

“Just look at the temperature drop, we will see a drop of about 12C in one or two spots as we move into Sunday.

“Then there will be snow showers in northeast Scotland.”
