A man won $1,000,000 (£830,000) twice in one day while trying to apologise and make things up to his angry wife.

The unnamed couple revealed that last week the husband had forgotten to buy their weekly lottery ticket.

So, in hopes of making up for his mistake, he purchased two tickets this week – both with their regular numbers.

They added that the wife has been using the same numbers for every draw for over a decade.

Incredibly, the couple from Wollongong, Australia hit the jackpot winning $1 million AUD (approximately £550K) twice on the Monday draw (March 13).

The unnamed woman nearly fainted when she realised they had two winning tickets.

He told lotto: “My wife has played these numbers for almost three decades and has always said they’d be drawn one day”.

The wife excitedly checked the numbers on Tuesday morning not knowing her husband had bought an identical ticket.

“I can’t believe this has happened to us,” he added.

The new millionaires said they will spend the money going on holiday and on their children.

“It won’t take much to make us happy,” the wife said.

“I can buy my daughter a house, I can set up the children and grandchildren for the future. Once we’ve done that, then we can enjoy whatever is left.”
