Seven people were taken to the hospital Saturday for observation after suffering from smoke inhalation in a fire at house in Brighton, authorities said.
Brighton Fire Rescue tweeted just after 3 p.m. that crews were on scene in the 1300 block of Strong Street, where they found heavy fire in the basement and ground floor of a single-story home. All occupants already were outside when firefighters arrive, officials said.
The South Adams County Fire Department assisted with the blaze, and five ambulances were sent to the scene to provide medical treatment and transport the smoke-inhalation patients to the hospital, according to Brighton Fire Rescue.
As of 3:30 p.m., the fire was under control and its cause is under investigation, authorities said.
