Cheeky cat who loves sneaking into school gets honoured with own yearbook photo

A persistent cat has snuck into its local primary so often that it got its school photo taken.

Emma Roberts, 45, had packed her two girls, Megan and Chloe off to school on picture day, but was surprised to find three images arriving back home.

The third was a picture of Ziggy, their gorgeous white and ginger cat who has a taste for sneaking into his best buds’ school.

The repeat offender, four, is a regular in the playgrounds of the Flintshire, North Wales, school – so much so that he earned the right to get his professional photo taken with the pupils.

Taking his chance like he was born for the lens, the poser cooly stared down the camera for one snap and elusively gazed into the middle distance in another.

Emma said: "Chloe handed the letter to me and I expected it to be her photos.

"But then when I looked I was just in floods of laughter and so were the other mums standing by me.

“I asked her what had gone on and she said he just jumped on the chair. He didn’t need any encouragement, he just got up there for a photo.

“The school has just accepted him and he goes there at any opportunity. He’s there every day.

“He sleeps on the headmaster’s desk, on piles of books and he goes into every classroom. He even strolls across the hall when they’re having an assembly.

“He’s just an absolute menace. It was real mixed emotions, it was funny and embarrassing.

“The kids see him at school and as soon as you go to pick them up you can hear kids talking about him.”

The school’s headteacher, Mark Biltcliffe, said they had accepted defeat with Ziggy because it was “impossible” to keep the feline away.

He said Ziggy “sets an example to pupils” because his attendance is so good.

Ziggy’s trip to school isn't simply a hop over the fence either – the walk takes around 10 minutes and is one he first made back in 2019.

Mark said: “It’s difficult to keep a cat off the school grounds, even if you wanted to, but thankfully he’s one of the nicest cats I’ve ever come across.

“He thinks he’s a pupil, so it’s fitting he’s had his own photo. I think it’ll be put up on the staff noticeboard.

“One time he was on the top ledge of the shelves in the secretary’s office, and he’s been known to sneak into mine, sit on the chair and fall asleep.

“We’ve not been looking to have a school cat or dog really, but he chose us.”

Emma has said she will be buying a copy of the picture to pop on the mantle piece next to Megan and Chloe.
