Gunman storms Turkey shopping centre with shots fired inside mall

A gunman has stormed a shopping centre in Turkey and has fired a number of shots, according to reports.

The shopping mall in the Boronova district of Izmir has been evacuated as police swoop on the scene.

It is reported that the gunman hid in stores and behind shutters.

But he was later arrested and taken to a police station.

It is not known if anyone was hurt in the incident.

Chilling footage circulating on social media shows a man walking around the mall with a gun.

The suspect had first been spotted by a member of the public who alerted police to a man carrying a shotgun.

Images on social media show a man wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a jumper being led away by police.

Large crowds are also seen outside the mall following the evacuation.

It is reported that the suspect was detained shortly after he had entered the shopping mall.

Izmir is located in the west of Turkey and around 300 miles away from Istanbul.
