Controversial social media influencer is set to be detained for 30 days by Romanian police.

Tate, and brother Tristan, was arrested last night (December 29) by Romanian police in connection with an investigation into alleged human trafficking and rape.

Officials had spent the last 24 hours deciding whether or not to detain the pair, and have now decided to do so.

Two others have also been held by the court in Bucharest.

Tate, 36, was pictured last night (December 29) in handcuffs in Romania as part of a human trafficking and rape investigation.

The arrest came following a Twitter spat with climate activist Greta Thunberg that is believed to have possibly led to Tate's arrest.

Prosecutors confirmed that that Tate, 36, was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group.

They said: "The four suspects … appear to have created an organised crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialised websites for a cost.

"They would have gained important sums of money."

Strangely, it was a sarcastic video response to climate campaigner Greta Thunberg that ended up leading police to him.

Tate, who has been accused of extreme misogyny towards women, was having an online spat with the 19-year-old when he tweeted her to brag about his “33 cars” and massive engines.

He taunted her again yesterday brandishing a pizza box – that he said he wasn't going to recycle.

Shortly after the Tate brothers were arrested, a spokesman told the Daily Star: “We cannot provide any details at the moment regarding alleged reports that they have been detained; however, Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will always assist and help in any way they can.”

The pair or their team have not commented directly on the investigation or arrest since it happened.
