Speaking to Fox News on Tuesday, a furious Nikki Haley blasted President Biden for pulling the US out of Afghanistan and triggering a “tragic” set of events which she believes has “destroyed” everything the US has worked to achieve in the last 20 years. She accused the President of having “humiliated America” and dismissed the narrative of not having any other options as wrong, commenting: “We didn’t have to have it this way”. The former UN ambassador said the withdrawal “could not have gone any worse” and described how Mr Biden had “failed miserably” as the country descends into chaos under Taliban rule.

Ms Haley said: “You know It didn’t have to be that way, that’s the first thought I have.

“In just a few hours, literally, Biden destroyed the progress, the relationships and everything we had done in the last 20-years in Afghanistan.”

She slammed: “All of our military families are very distraught at what we have watched happen and how we were basically run out of town!”

Ms Haley went on to reflect on the women and girls who were holding positions in government and how they are “now going back to being sex slaves hidden in their homes.”

The former US ambassador to the UN stressed: “This is horrible, this could not have gone any worse!

“Biden is trying to make this about what his options were, you know what? He didn’t have to have it this way! It’s not always what we do, it’s how we do it.”

And, in a stinging conclusion, Ms Haley said: “And he failed miserably, he humiliated America and the world sees us as less safe now and that’s all because of Biden, it’s tragic!”

Her scathing comments come as Joe Biden told a press conference on Monday evening that the collapse of Afghanistan was the fault of the Afghan army and the government.

In a brutal conclusion to 20 years of US intervention in the country, Mr Biden said: “I stand squarely behind my decisions, after 20 years, I learned the hard way. Afghanistan’s political leaders gave up and fled the country! The Afghan military collapsed. Sometimes without trying to fight!

He claimed: We gave them every chance to determine their own future. We could not provide them with the will to fight for their future.”

Mr Biden aknowledged that “there are some very brave and capable Afghan Special Forces units and soldiers.”

He insisted: “If Afghanistan is unable to mount any real resistance to the Taliban now, there is no chance that one more year, five more years, or twenty more years US military boots on the ground would have made any difference.”

The speech followed days of chaos as the Taliban made lightning gains across Afghanistan which was met with little resistance by the Afghan army, culminating in the capture of the capital Kabul in a matter of days and the toppling of the government. On Sunday, Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani fled to neighbouring Tajikistan.

The speed of the advance sparked a mass panic by terrified Afghans as chaotic scenes erupted at Kabul airport. Thousands of desperate civilians attempted to flee the country via the air without tickets or even passports as they scrambled onto flights.

Reports suggest a number were killed in stampedes across the tarmac as people were desperate to get out of the country.

But horrific scenes caught on camera captured the moment tragic Afghans clung to the side of a departing US Air Force plane. A number of Afghans who stayed on the aircraft as it took off fell to their deaths.
