Kate Middleton ‘secretly axing long-standing royal traditions,’ expert claims

Kate Middleton and Prince William are quietly tearing up royal traditions “while the press are distracted over Prince Harry ’s memoir and he and Meghan’s Netflix TV series,” a commentator has said.

Commentator Daniel Elser wrote in news.com.au that the Prince and Princess of Wales are quietly removing old ways senior royals go about their business.

One of the key differences will be the royal approach to visits to deprived areas.

Historically royals have opted to, “turn up, shake hands, smile… and hope that the Royal Presence would bring with it donations and support.”

Now though Elser pointed out how the pair are approaching things differently.

According to the Telegraph, they now “want to reverse the process by using the build-up to a visit to generate money, which they can then announce and disburse when they get there.”

Elser claims that the moves have come now because the world has changed, with the traditions and methods of a different generation no longer relevant today.

Also on the chopping block is the longstanding tradition of Kensington Palace sending out details of what Kate will be wearing for the day.

The move comes, according to the royal expert, as pushback against female members of the royalty being overly defined by what they wear.

The Princess of Wales has opted to adjust her outfits, “with smart blazers and trousers replacing her large collection of girly frocks around the time her working career really took off with the launch of her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.”

Kate’s activities have changed too. Elser says: “Kate’s official outings used to be all shaking hands and accepting posies; now we are seeing her convening round tables involving cabinet ministers and chairing meetings chock-o-block with academics.

“The point is, the Princess of Wales clearly wants the story to be her work and not whatever mid-range navy top she picked up while down the King’s Road.”
