Wildlife traffickers who caught a live crocodile and were filmed taking it home on a motorcycle have been branded "disgusting" by animal lovers.
In the clip, recorded in Navolato, Mexico, two men hoist a fully-grown crocodile – roughly 8ft-long – out of a lake with ropes.
One of the men tells his pal: "Pull it! Pull it! It's very heavy."
In the next scene, the large crocodile is stretched out along the length of the motorcycle and the biker straddles its body and apparently shows off to other road users.
It is believed that the pair sedated the croc as well as tying its snout and body so they could transport it by motorbike without getting bitten – but it was still incredibly reckless.
The footage went viral on social media and was widely condemned by wildlife lovers.
One Facebook user commented: "Humans are the worst thing that ever happened to this planet. Disgusting."
A second person said: "Animals! I hope the crocodile bites off an arm or foot."
The two men in the video have not yet been identified by the local authorities and the current location of the crocodile is also unknown.
Navolato police are still investigating the matter.
If convicted, the culprits could face between one and nine years in prison for stealing the croc with up to three further years added for doing so in a protected area of land.
The most trafficked species in Mexico are macaws, toucans, monkeys, ocelots, tarantulas and reptiles, according to the newspaper Infobae.
It's not clear what purpose the traffickers would have for the crocodile, but some people try to keep them as pets and they are also consumed as exotic meat and their skin used for leather.
