Prince Charles's choice of Christmas card represents a "frustrating and turbulent" year while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge 's provides the nation with "hope for the future", a royal expert has claimed.
The Prince of Wales can be seen adjusting Camilla Parker Bowles's face mask in the photograph which was snapped by royal photographer Samir Hussein.
Kinsey Schofield, founder of To Di For Daily, claims that the "cold image does not express an ounce of hope, joy, or faith."
The royal commentator and expert questioned the Prince's choice of photograph during the coronavirus pandemic.
Schofield told the Daily Star: "While Hussein is undeniably talented, why would you want to remind friends, family, and the general public, during the most magical and faith-driven time of the year, that we are trapped in the middle of a global plague with no end in sight?"
She goes on to highlight the fact that the snap is "not even a personal photo" and instead one "taken by a royal photographer at a royal engagement".
Schofield claims "this does nothing to help Charles's icy reputation".
But the royal commentator believes the William and Kate's choice of photo "radiates love and positivity" and promotes "hope and prosperity".
The picture shows William and Kate dressed casually with their kids Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three.
"The entire picture radiates love and positivity," Schofield said.
"A future where we can take off our masks, shake a strange's hand, and hug our friends. No more elbows.
Bouncer targeted in racist Wetherspoons rant says it was 'worse than stab threats'
"A future where our children are safe and healthy. Where we can visit with the elderly without fear.
"It is encouraging. Just the fact that they are smiling and looking at the camera makes you feel warm like the shot was taken just for you.
"The Cambridge family is looking to ensure that their image is one of hope and prosperity. Not in the sense of wealth but in faith and love."
The Cambridge family's holiday card also went down in history – Prince William became the first royal to wear shorts in an official photo.

The family picture features William, wife Kate and the royal children sitting on a fur rug, and some fluffy furniture – as well as a giant golden ball – outdoors in Jordan – where they had gone for a pre-Christmas holiday.
Royal expert Daniela Elser commented on the historic photo, claiming that it could be a sign of the way the couple plan to take the monarchy forward into the future.
She said, writing for news.com.au : “What this card really signals is the extent to which they intend to do things their own way and if that means seeing the one-day King William IV’s pasty gams, then so be it."
