A teenage girl who was thought to have committed suicide may have really been murdered after she was tricked into creating indecent images while underage.
Until now police have believed that Giulia Di Sabatino jumped to her death on her 19th birthday on September 1, 2015.
The teen's parents, who had long doubted their daughter's apparent suicide, hired computer technicians, who recovered 3,008 photographs of Giulia and her friends, many of an explicit nature, which had been deleted after her death.
Folders and browsing histories that had been deleted were also recovered and detectives were also able to ascertain who had accessed the teen's Facebook profile.
They discovered that the teen's email credentials had been changed on the night of her death but they cannot confirm whether it was before or after she died.
However, her mobile phone was left at home and investigators found the change was made from a distant IP address.
The latest findings combined with details from the autopsy revealed an impact to the chest area which suggests the victim was placed on the road rather than launched onto it from above.
Also, there were no traces of rust found on her hands or clothes suggesting she had not made contact with the barrier at the edge of the overpass.
Eye-witness testimony from a motorist who claimed he had seen the young woman being escorted by two men on the overpass at the time.
The same motorist later died in an accident.
It is unclear whether the Italian police have investigated his death or whether the accident was suspicious.

A former friend of the victim went on trial in October last year for blackmailing her into her posing for indecent photos and videos when she was a minor.
He was aged 30 at the time, and the outcome of the trial has not been reported.
However, he was cleared as a suspect in the teen's death, although no details about that have been revealed.
