The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are back in full celebratory flight this week as the Air Force Academy holds its commencement ceremony.
The Thunderbirds only did a flyover in 2020 as Air Force limited their graduation festivities. For the Class of 2021, they also perform an aerial demonstration.
Tuesday morning, the Thunderbirds did a full practice before noon and take a VIP flight with Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete Bryan Clay.
At around 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Thunderbirds will fly over and perform at the conclusion of the graduation ceremony.
In-person attendance is limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning the best view is likely from a bit east of Interstate 25 north of Colorado Springs. Officials warn not to stop on the side of the road.
The Thunderbirds’ will be back along the Front Range for Cheyenne Frontier Days on July 28.
