Highs of 13C have been forecast across south east England today, with sunny spells expected to dominate. The Spring sunshine will be welcomed by many, as Prince Philip’s funeral will take place at 3pm this afternoon at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Minute’s silences will take place across the country as a sign of respect to the late Duke, who died aged 99.

The Met Office said while Saturday will see a chilly start, with widespread frost, beaming sunshine will soon drive temperatures up to highs of 14C in Wales and north east Scotland by the afternoon.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said Saturday will be: “Any frost will met away quickly and then it’s a dry fine day, with some good spells of sunshine.

“Some cloud will develop through the day and particularly across the far north west the sunshine here will be fairly hazy.

“But for most it’s dry and it’s bright.”

He added: “For most places temperatures a little bit higher than on Friday.

“So again, with light winds if you can get in the sunny spells it will feel quite pleasant after that cold and frosty start.”

By 4pm, the Met Office predicts southern England will see highs of 13C.

Other parts of the country will also see temperatures reach the low-teens.

A temperature chart by Netweather forecasts highs of 12C at 3pm today.

A second weather map by WXCharts, valid for 3pm, shows the mercury is expected to rise to between 10-12C.

However, Mr Deakin warns temperatures will drop away “quite quickly” as the evening approaches.

He said it will feel quite chilly come 7pm, with a frost forming overnight.

BBC weather presenter Louise Lear also said today will be fine and bright for most.

She said: “For many of us the emphasis is dry, settled and sunny for the remainder of the day and with just a light breeze.

“We could see a little bit of fair weather cloud developing as we go through the afternoon but temperatures are likely to peak at highs widely between 11 and 14C.

“One or two areas may see highs of 15C.”

The forecast for Sunday is set to largely mirror the mild temperatures and sunny spells seen today in the south of England.

Ms Lear said: “To the east of the Pennines we keep some clearer skies, we keep some sunshine and some warmth with highs of 15C.”

But she cautions Scotland and the West of the UK is set for patches of rain and thickening cloud.

As we go into Monday, the forecasters said the calmer weather continue to dominate.

Ms Lear said highs of 16C could be seen on Monday, as the dry and warm spell continues.
