Vladimir Putin has suffered another major blow after Ukraine forces “demolished key bridges” after firing from a “killing zone”, stopping Russia’s Wagner Group in their tracks. The UK Ministry of Defence wrote in its latest intelligence update: “Over the last four days, Wagner Group forces have taken control of most of eastern part of the Donbas town of Bakhmut. In the town centre, the Bakhmutka River now marks the front line.
“Ukrainian forces hold the west of the town and have demolished key bridges over the river, which runs through north-south through a strip of open ground 200m-800m wide, between built up areas.
“With Ukrainian units able to fire from fortified buildings to the west, this area has become a killing zone, likely making it highly challenging for Wagner forces attempting to continue their frontal assault westwards.
“However, the Ukrainian force and their supply lines to the west remain vulnerable to the continued Russian attempts to outflank the defenders from the north and south.”

Rishi Sunak says Russia and Ukraine war will end ‘at the negotiating table’
The British Prime Minister has said the Ukraine conflict will end “at the negotiating table” – despite continuing to insist the focus remains on defeating Russia in the battlefield.
Mr Sunak made the comments when speaking to reporters as he made his way to a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
He said: “Of course, this will end as all conflicts do at the negotiating table, but that is a decision for Ukraine to make.”
But during a press conference later on Friday, the Prime Minister seemingly hardened his stance on the matter, saying he wanted to be “unequivocal” about the UK’s desire for Ukraine to “win this war”.
