Michael Schumacher has been out of the public eye since his horrific accident and brain injury eight years ago. Today a new Netflix documentary backed by the Schumacher family featuring close family members as well as current Formula 1 drivers will air on the streaming platform.
Interest in the life, career and current whereabouts of Michael Schumacher has been ignited in recent days ahead of the release of a new documentary about the sportsman.
The Netflix film is being released today (September 15) and will follow the early years of the Formula 1 legend right up to the very peak of his career.
Schumacher dominated in this field winning seven world championships and a total of 91 victories before he was injured in a horrific accident.
On December 29, 2013, Schumacher was skiing with his son, then 14, Mich, in the Meribel resort of the French Alps.
He was crossing an unsecured off-piste area between Piste Chamois and Piste Mauduit when Schumacher fell and hit his head on a rock.
The racing star was wearing a helmet, which doctors said prevented his death at that moment.
But the racer was left with a serious head injury.
He was airlifted to hospital for emergency treatment and put into a medically induced coma, later undergoing two operations to remove blood and pressure from his brain.
In 2014, Schumacher was taken from hospital back to his home in Lake Geneva for further rehabilitation, where he has been ever since.
However, Schumacher and his wife Connie reportedly put their palatial home in Switzerland on the market earlier this year.
They originally acquired the estate in 2002 for £3m.
The farmhouse-style property spans 20,000 square metres and has been described as exceptional in a quiet and protected location.
Sources indicate the Michael Schumacher mansion in Lake Geneva, Switzerland has been priced at £6.4 million.

The Schumacher family also owns a ranch in Texas.
The ranch hosted the world reining championships in 2016 having previously hosted a number of editions of the youth world champions.
The Schumacher family reportedly spent £2.4m on a huge plot of land in Mallorca to build stables on.
The Formula One legend’s daughter and wife are said to have bought the 13-acre plot to “raise and ride horses on”.
The land is reportedly in Puerto Andratx, close to the £27million mansion Corinna is thought to have bought from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in 2017.
Rumours emerged earlier this year suggesting the Formula 1 star wanted to be moved to the Mallorca house earlier this year.
However, these reports were quashed by the Schumacher family.
Where does Michael Schumacher live now?
The Schumacher family is famously private but it’s been reported that Corinna sold the long-time family estate in Gland, Switzerland and relocated to Mallorca, Spain.
However, no-one close to the family has confirmed this.
The family has strong ties to Switzerland with Corinna’s CS Ranch located just outside Gland.
