The Range has agreed to buy the Wilko brand in a new multi-million-pound deal, according to new reports.

The move, set to be announced by administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) later today, comes after the beloved high street store collapsed into administration last month.

And after a series of failed deals the retailer announced plans earlier this week to close all 400 of its stores, threatening to make many of Wilko's 12,500 staff across the country redundant.

The new deal, reportedly worth £5m, will see the Wilko brand appear in The Range's stores – meaning while it won't disappear from the high street, it won't have its own shops.

The news comes days after Poundland owner Pepco revealed it will buy up to 71 Wilko stores, with bosses hoping to reopen the closed branches by the end of the year.

The shops will be rebranded as Poundland stores, however, and will no longer bear the Wilko name.

Similarly, bargain shop B&M has agreed to buy 51 of Wilko’s buildings in a deal worth £13m, which will also see the premises rebrand.

Attempts to keep the popular chain on the high street have been unsuccessful, including one by billionaire HMV owner Doug Putman, which would have saved a whopping 300 branches from closure.
