Italy is home to some of the world\u2019s most incredible historic landmarks. From the Colosseum to Venice\u2019s canals, it\u2019s hardly surprising that so many tourists visit.<\/p>\n
However, one of Rome\u2019s top landmarks has attracted a few negative reviews from tourists who said heavy crowds ruined their experience.<\/p>\n
Rome\u2019s Spanish Steps were built in the 18th century and have featured in several movies, including Roman Holiday and Talented Mr Ripley.<\/p>\n
One tourist \u2018Sarah L\u2019 wrote: \u201cOverrun with tourists, avoid! They may be one of the most popular tourist sites in the city but I really don\u2019t see the attraction. It\u2019s overrun by tourists and at the end of the day, it\u2019s ultimately a staircase!\u201d<\/p>\n
Another visitor \u2018SmLikesto Travel\u2019 said: \u201cThe area is very crowded. The steps themselves are nice enough\u2026 just that it would have been more enjoyable with fewer crowds.<\/p>\n

They were just steps.\u201d<\/p>\n The Spanish Steps might be \u201cjust steps\u201d but there\u2019s a reason why they form one of the world\u2019s most famous staircases. More info<\/p>\n John Keats, the famed English poet, died in a house near the steps in 1821 and there\u2019s a museum on the site today.<\/p>\n Although some tourists were less than impressed with the Spanish Steps, others recommended the experience.<\/p>\n Tripadvisor reviewer \u2018soinic\u2019 said: \u201cIconic landmark. A place you\u2019ll never forget. Very special.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018Ving Traveller\u2019 said: \u201cA great free thing to do in Rome. The climb is worth it as the view from the top is awe inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n Tourists will need to follow the rules if they want to visit Rome\u2019s Spanish Steps. Following damage to the steps, tourists are no longer allowed to sit and relax on the steps.<\/p>\n In 2022, an American tourist sparked rage after she was spotted hurling an electric scooter down the steps. The incident reportedly caused \u00a321,000 worth of damage.<\/p>\n The Spanish Steps aren\u2019t the only crowded Italian hotspot.
