Google's Artificial Intelligence software Bard has made some chilling predictions about how the world will end.

The Daily Star asked the newly-updated AI-powered tech to tell us how and when the end of the world will come – and it didn't disappoint. Bard put the end of the world into four main categories, including nuclear war and concerningly . . . AI.

But fear not, it went on to clarify that the world might not end and in any of those ways, and that humans could “overcome” all possible challenges. But it also warned that “the fate of the world is in the hands of humanity”, and that we have the “power” to destroy ourselves.

It also went on to state that there is “no definitive answer”, and it also failed to identify exactly when the end of the world would come. We did ask it to go into more detail about the categories it came up with.

“A massive asteroid impact, a super-volcanic eruption, or a global pandemic could all potentially wipe out humanity. A large asteroid impact could cause widespread destruction and loss of life, and could even lead to human extinction.

“The Chicxulub asteroid impact 66 million years ago is believed to have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. A super-volcanic eruption could release a massive amount of ash and dust into the atmosphere, blocking out the sun and causing a global volcanic winter – this could lead to widespread crop failures and famine, and could make it difficult for humans to survive.

“A global pandemic of a deadly disease could kill millions of people and disrupt global society. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how quickly a disease can spread around the world and cause widespread disruption.”

“A nuclear war between two or more major powers could also lead to the end of the world, either directly or through the resulting nuclear winter. Nuclear weapons are very powerful and can cause widespread destruction and loss of life.

“A large nuclear war could kill millions of people instantly, and the resulting radiation poisoning could kill many more. It could release a massive amount of ash and dust into the atmosphere, blocking out the sun and causing a global nuclear winter, which could lead to widespread crop failures and famine, and could make it difficult for humans to survive.

“It would cause widespread economic disruption and could lead to a global economic collapse, and this could make it difficult for countries to rebuild and could lead to widespread social unrest. Lastly, it could cause widespread environmental damage, including the contamination of water and soil, which could make it difficult for humans to live in some areas and could lead to long-term health problems for survivors.”

“If climate change is not addressed, it could lead to catastrophic events such as sea level rise, extreme weather events, and mass extinctions. In addition to these specific impacts, climate change could also lead to the collapse of civilization by making it difficult for governments to function and by disrupting global economic systems.

“It is important to note that the worst impacts of climate change can be avoided if we take action now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, if we do not take action, the impacts of climate change will become increasingly severe and could make it very difficult for humans to survive on Earth.”

“Some people believe that artificial intelligence could eventually become so intelligent that it surpasses human intelligence and decides to eliminate humanity. AI could become so intelligent that it surpasses human intelligence and decides to eliminate humanity.

“This is a common scenario in science fiction, but it is also a serious concern among some AI researchers. AI could be used to develop autonomous weapons that could kill without human intervention.

“This could lead to an accidental or intentional arms race, which could eventually lead to a nuclear war. AI could be used to create biological weapons or other new and dangerous forms of weaponry."
