Virgin Atlantic has been tricking cheeky passengers who are taking more than their ticket signed them up for.

The airline famously hands out mini salt and pepper shakers with its meals, which we have to admit are very cute as they’re shaped just like tiny planes complete with wings, a tail and feet. The fun salt and pepper mills come in gold, silver and black and are handed over with your in-flight breakfast or dinner.

Since their introduction, the little shakers have become somewhat of a collector's item among keen travellers, aviation enthusiasts and thrifty holidaymakers. Some of the little pepper pots are even listed on eBay – for £25 a pop!

But, it seems Virgin Atlantic may have included a little surprise in the design of their mini plane shakers, meaning you’re not so likely to get away with nicking the cute pots. Or, at least, your pals will all know about your sticky fingers!

Last year, the airline revealed just how it poked fun at the number of people who take the little shakers home with them after a flight. A tweet from the brand's account read: "Caught red handed? If you’ve walked away from one of our flights with a 'new' salt and pepper shaker, take a peek at their feet and you’ll be in for a surprise."

It turns out that if you turn the salt and pepper pots over you’ll see a hidden inscription on the base, which reads 'Pinched from Virgin Atlantic'.

Hundreds of fans liked the post with many saying they had nabbed their own set when flying with the airline, with many people quipping that the hidden message wouldn’t stop them from taking the cute salt and pepper shakers. One person joked: "I will be walking away with these next week."

Another person joked that they were "looking forward to 'borrowing' some" on their next flight adding that "I might or might not have black, silver and gold!". Meanwhile one person said they had also taken the shakers home, but that the best part was the "pinched from" message when they discovered it.
