UK weather: Met Office forecasts more settled conditions

A total of 14 counties have been placed under a fresh ‘danger to life’ weather warning for rain just hours after Storm Babet left her deadly mark on Britain.

The Met Office has warned heavy downpours will return from 3am tomorrow until 4pm the same day. The forecaster added that some flooding is again likely given the already “saturated” areas.

In a statement, it said: “An area of rain, some of which will be heavy, will move north across the region during Tuesday morning.

“There remains some uncertainty in the extent of the heavier rain, but given the already saturated conditions, where this occurs further impacts from flooding are possible.

“A total of 10-20 mm of rain is expected to fall fairly widely, but a few places could see 30-50 mm; these higher totals more likely in Lincolnshire and Humberside.”

In terms of what to expect, the Met Office says difficult driving conditions could be caused by spray and flooding.

Where flooding occurs, it adds, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train or bus services. There is also a small chance of homes and businesses suffering more flooding misery.

It says there is a small chance of fast flowing flood water posing a danger to life, with some communities at risk of being cut off once again.

But in terms of impacts, this latest weather warning is not predicted to unravel the same chaos and devastation as Storm Babet did last week and over the weekend.
