Angry visitors have slammed Europe’s busiest beach which has been “ruined by tourists” – and is so crowded that visitors must queue.

When thinking of beautiful beach getaways you’d be forgiven for naming the Costa del Sol or the Algarve high on your list – however, there is one well-known gem which is attracting more tourists than anywhere else.

Nestled deep in the Aegean Sea is the TikTok-famous Elafonissi Beach, known for its pink sand, sunny weather and watersports scene.

But the popular Crete attraction has recently been the subject of a spate of negative reviews – with one visitor from Huddersfield warning others: “Don’t bother”.

Another visitor, Janet, described the problems: “Far too many people – bus loads and car parks full”.

Seemingly unaware she was part of the problem, Janet added: “Signs show it’s a place of natural wonders, however, too many people, lots of rubbish, and deserted caravans upon entry”.

Another one-star review lamented the overcrowding, saying “the only place where there was no human was in the tree branches”, while also amusingly pointing out that the water only went up to your knees, so you “walk until Santorini” if you wanted to swim.

A recurring complaint revolved around how the roads leading up to the beach have been closed, meaning people are “forced” to park at the “expensive parking”, meaning a compulsory 20-minute walk down a “horrible” road.

Another less than impressed tourist highlighted that there were crowds of people queueing “just to get onto the beach”.
