The UK is heading for a frosty period as temperatures as low as -20C are brought in by a "cold pool" from Scandinavia.<\/p>\n

A rain-bearing low-pressure system is set to meet a "blocking" high-pressure system over Norway and Sweden in the coming few days, where it will then stall over the UK. One meteorologist said the weather event could bring conditions similar to those seen during Storm Babet earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Northern parts of the country are predicted to experience an early cold snap as temperatures plummet and snow has been forecast, reports GB News. Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services, said: "It is looking similar to Storm Babet, and that means there is going to be more rain, especially for Scotland. The continued wet weather is the result of the sea temperatures remaining higher than normal after the summer heat.<\/p>\n

"This ploughs energy into the atmosphere, and much like a pan of water on the stove, moisture evaporates and turns to rain," he added. "There is a bit of a wintry element to this, with northern regions including Scotland possibly going to feel colder as we go through next week with the risk of frosts and some wintriness over higher ground."<\/p>\n
