The so-called 'Clifton Rapist' has been sent back to jail at the age of 82 for four years, having already racked up the record of the most years spent behind bars.

Ronald Evans murdered 21-year-old shop worker Kathleen Heathcote in 1963 and was jailed for 11 years before being released. He later carried out a string of sex attacks in Bristol in the 1970s, for which he became known as the 'Clifton rapist'.

The monster was once again locked up in 1979 and remained in prison until the Parole Board decided in 2018 that he could be released for a second time before he sexually assaulted a woman while working at a community centre.

Evans was also accused of rubbing his erect penis against another woman before groping her breasts and crotch, but was acquitted of these charges.

The best friend of Evans' murder victim Kathleen Heathcote, said she was furious the sick was released in the first place. A detective who took down Evans also said all signs suggested he would never stop being a danger to women, given the opportunity.

He was convicted earlier this week at Harrow Crown Court, sitting at Hendon Magistrates’ Court, of one count of sexual assault. Evans, who appeared at the Old Bailey today via videolink from Pentonville Prison in north London, was cleared of two other counts of sex assault involving a different woman.

Sentencing the notorious criminal, Her Honour Judge Vanessa Francis told Evans that he continued to pose a significant risk to women, and time had done "nothing" to change his status as a prolific sexual predator.

Jailing him for four years, the Judge said: “The aggravating features are so starkly significant in Mr Evans’ case that it takes him into the [sentencing] category above. I am extremely troubled by the evidence I heard. This is an extremely unusual case, as much as anything because of Mr Evans’ background.”

Referring to his previous offending, Judge Francis added that some of his sexual offending in the Bristol area had come to light following scientific advances in DNA testing.

“In 1963 you were convicted of rape and murder,” she said, addressing Evans who was wearing a grey prison tracksuit top. It was a murder involving sexual offending. You went on to attack a number of lone women at night. You spent almost the next 40 years in prison.

“It’s apparent in your actions towards [your latest victim] that time has done nothing to change the fact that you are a sexual predator. Your previous convictions are a significant aggravating factor in this case, as was the fact that you were on life licence, which was first [enacted] in 1975.”
