This beautiful German city is perfect for a European break packed with narrow cobbled streets and charming independent shops which have seen it compared with York.<\/p>\n

Bremen in Germany features gorgeous impressionist architecture and half-timbered buildings with calming views of the River Weser visible from its harbour.<\/p>\n

The city even has one of the best-loved Christmas markets in Germany making it perfect for a festive visit.<\/p>\n

One impressed visitor told the Guardian it was the “German version of York” describing the city as “small but perfectly formed”.<\/p>\n

The city is also packed with cultural offerings such as the brilliant Pier 2 music venue, which is based in an old shipping container in Bremen’s docks and the B\u00f6ttcherstra\u00dfe which is packed with art galleries and obscure architecture.<\/p>\n

Some of the city’s best-known landmarks include its Marktplatz which provides the setting for the city’s unique St Peter’s Cathedral and Renaissance-style town hall, which is the seat of the Senate of Bremen.<\/p>\n

Booze lovers will enjoy Bremen’s Ratskeller, with a wine list of more than 600 exclusively German wines which includes 12 of the world’s oldest.<\/p>\n

Other attractions include the\u00a0Universum Science Centre housed in a metallic shiny dome, the\u00a0Rhododendron-Park Bremen which is a major collection of plants featuring a colourful botanical garden and the Valentin submarine pens which once contained German u-boats in the Second World War.<\/p>\n
