A mind-bending apartment complex from the 1970s bears a stunning resemblance with the set of a newly-launched real-life Netflix game show.

La Muralla Roja, which translates to the Red Wall, offers a staggered silhouette like no other as it looks over the beautiful Calpe Bay in Spain.

Located in Manzanera, a coastal town in the south-eastern Spanish province of Valencia, the fortress-like complex is composed of 50 apartments, the external walls, stairs and doors of which are painted in various shades of red, pink, blue and violet.

The insane-looking building comes from the bright mind of Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, who started creating the complex for Palomar S.A. in 1968.

Completed in 1973, this complex calls back memories of the casbahs, North African citadels.

Inside the complex, a series of geometric staircases lead residents to their doors, terraces or other amenities.

The Muralla Roja, the bright colours of which stand out against the seaside panorama, is still in use and offers buyers and renters three different styles of apartments – studio, two-bedroom and three-bedroom – ranging from 60 square metres to 120 square metres.

The building also offers several facilities, including commercial stores, a restaurant, solariums and a swimming pool open only to those living in the Muralla Roja.
