More snow and rain will engulf the UK in the coming days as sub-zero temperatures take hold.

Millions of people have already been hit with the harsh winter weather as a result of the cold snap that has hit Europe in the past week, leaving numerous countries covered in snow.

Weather maps show more snow and rain is expected to hit the majority of the UK in the coming days, with snow in the north of England and Scotland and rain in the majority of the rest.

Snow and ice risks have spread as far south as Cornwall. But, while the snow has surprised people across the country over the last week, the next week will see a much wetter picture dominated by rain.

Weather maps show heavy rain is expected to hit parts of the UK on Monday, December 4 at around 3am.

Some parts of the UK can expect freezing rain, with areas near Birmingham and Manchester worst hit.

Meanwhile, Scotland will see temperatures drop to -10C again on Monday, with the rest of the UK facing temperatures below 0C.

From Wednesday, December 6, that huge system will start moving eastwards, through the Republic of Ireland and into the UK.

Snow will fall alongside rain in some places, and with temperatures tipped to remain in the 1C to -1C range, the Met Office has warned they could cause hazards into next week.
