Vladimir Putin has branded Joe Biden’s remarks about an attack on NATO from Moscow as “complete nonsense.”

President Biden warned that Russia would launch attacks on NATO countries if Moscow emerged victorious in Ukraine as he tried to convince Republican Party figures to pass his aid package for Kyiv.

But, speaking earlier today, Putin told Rossiya state television: “It is complete nonsense – and I think President Biden understands that.”

Putin added that Biden appeared to be trying to justify his own “mistaken policy” on Russia.

The Russian President was asked whether common ground can be found between the West and Russia – despite widening divisions over Ukraine and other geopolitcal issues.

He replied: “They will have to find common ground because they will have to reckon with us.”

The Kremlin chief added that the West had not understood the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

Speaking of his view in 2000, Putin said: “I really did have a naive impression.

“The reality is that after the fall of the Soviet Union, they considered that they just had to wait for a bit to completely destroy Russia.”

Putin’s comments come as Russia continues to attack Ukraine.

The Kremlin chief added that the West had the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

Russia has launched a number of drone attacks since its invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

The strike in Odesa has killed one civilian, according to reports.

Russia said it had destroyed 33 Ukraine-launched drones intended for targets over Lipetsk, Rostov, and Volgograd regions.

Russian forces have also begun building a new base for its Black Sea fleet, but it is more than 500 miles behind the front line.

The construction has been shown in satellite imagery at the port of Ochamchire in Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia region.

This comes after Ukraine struck Russia’s main Black Sea base at Sevastopol in occupied Crimea using missiles supplied by Britain.

Most of Russia’s fleet is currently stationed 200 miles further east at Novorossiysk.
