The 2024 Genesis GV60 electric hatchback rolls into its second model year with a new rear-wheel-drive variant that drops the entry price by $8,500 and boosts the range from 248 miles to 294 miles, Genesis announced Wednesday.
The first full battery electric vehicle offered by Genesis originally came with two motors and all-wheel drive. The 2024 Genesis GV60 Standard RWD costs $53,195 (including a mandatory $1,195 destination charge), and has an estimated 294 miles of range from a 77-kwh battery pack. That’s 19% more range than the AWD version. Battery capacity is slightly less than the 77.4-kwh quote for dual-motor all-wheel-drive models.
Its single 168-kw motor produces 225 hp, which is slightly more than the 160-kw rear motor on AWD versions. Genesis did not quote a 0-60 mph for either variant of its spry hatchback that’s marketed as a small crossover. It’s about eight inches shorter in length than the GV70 compact crossover.
A heat pump and battery heater are standard across the board to improve cold weather efficiency and keep DC fast-charge times quick, and this year Genesis adds a wifi hotspot and digital key as standard. More standard safety features include more airbags, a seatbelt pretensioner, and an enhanced version of its adaptive cruise control that also keeps the vehicle centered in the lane. It’s not a hands-free driving system like GM’s Super Cruise, but drivers can take their hands off the wheel for 20 seconds or so.
That supplements an already extensive list of standard safety features, including adaptive cruise control, active lane control, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitors, and automatic emergency braking.
The standard convenience features make it a luxury value. The 2024 GV60 comes with twin 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and the infotainment touchscreen (with wired smartphone compatibility), a Bang & Olufsen 17-speaker sound system, wireless smartphone charging pad, head-up display, a power tailgate, heated and cooled front seats with power lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, and large glass roof.
That’s the same equipment as what’s one the GV60 Advanced AWD, but that second 74-kw motor powering the front axle boosts the 2024 price to $61,745. That’s a price increase of $1,760 from the 2023 Genesis GV60 Advanced AWD.
The top Performance model now costs $70,745, which is also an increase of $1,760.
The new entry-level GV60 offers a more affordable and competitive welcome to the brand’s growing electric vehicle family, which includes full electric iterations of the G80 midsize sedan and GV70 crossover. Hyundai’s luxury brand pledged to introduce only electric models from 2025 on, as part of its plan to be a fully electric automaker by 2030.
The 2024 Genesis GV60 is the only electric vehicle in the family built on a dedicated EV platform, which is also shared with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. Since it’s manufactured in South Korea, the GV60 doesn’t qualify for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, except for a lease loophole.
That will likely change. Parent company Hyundai has invested more than $500 million in EV development at its Montgomery, Alabama plant, where the Electrified GV70 is being made. It also ramped up production of its $7.6 billion manufacturing complex dubbed the “Metaplant,” near Savannah, Georgia to start rolling out EVs in the fall of 2024. Hyundai hasn’t detailed which models will be built there.
The 2024 GV60 is available now in select states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin), while the GV60 Performance AWD will arrive later.
