My 10-month-old Mahindra Thar: 15,000 km update including fuel economy

The SUV can be pushed hard on good empty roads and I have floored it on many drives but it’s best to keep it under 120.

BHPian Urorobo recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

My Thar completes 10 months and I have driven 15K km.

  • Fuel efficiency- Good fuel efficiency of around 14-16 for my usual work-to-home commute. Highway, 16 plus while driving normally. It can go upto 20 if on exp way with a steady speed of 80 kmph. Push it hard and FE drops drastically.
  • Ride and handling- One gets used to it. Thar can be pushed hard on good empty roads and I have floored it on many drives but best to keep it under 120 and most highways have a safe limit of 100.

Niggles:

  • DEF issue once – drove 15 min > 2000 rpm
  • Squeaking sounds occasionally come and go (with some hydration of the rubber and tightening of nuts) but hey it’s a Jeep and Mahindra at that.
  • Cruise Control sometimes doesn’t engage, is the only permanent niggle. Will have it checked.
  • Ride has improved with time or my body has gotten used to it.
  • Kids love it and my mom doesn’t complain though Duster is her car of choice. Wife appreciates it but she is yet to drive it.

Overall

Very happy, brings a smile every time I look at it or step in it. Would love to get a Red convertible for my wife (read me) but she doesn’t agree.

Plan to have LED Amber Fogs and maybe a grill swap and bumper plus Cube LEDs on the bonnet.

Happy motoring.
