The Colorado School of Mines football team’s romp through the RMAC continued Saturday afternoon.
The Orediggers made quick work of Chadron State before a sellout homecoming crowd at Marv Kay Stadium, running up a five-score halftime lead that was never challenged in a 35-7 victory.
Running back Noah Roper scored three touchdowns, all before halftime, quarterback John Matocha threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns, and the Mines defense racked up five sacks.
The second-ranked Orediggers (5-0, 3-0 RMAC) have outscored RMAC competition 160-28 through three conference games, with Saturday’s blowout the first time they were held under 50.
Max McLeod topped 100 yards receiving for the fifth straight game, hauling in 10 balls for 103 yards, while Zach Hoffman had seven catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Hoffman’s second score gave Mines a 21-0 lead with 10:55 left in the second quarter. Roper tacked on scoring runs of 38 and 3 yards later in the frame to take a 35-0 lead into the break.
Chadron State (1-4, 0-3) didn’t find the end zone until the fourth quarter, after the game had long since been decided.
