In a rollback of a planned change that had angered travel retailers, Delta Vacations bookings made with a travel advisor will continue to count toward Delta’s Medallion status.
Delta Vacations president Kama Winters made the announcement in a letter to advisors. The letter was sent after Delta on Wednesday dialed back some loyalty program changes that were widely panned by frequent flyers.
In September, Delta said every dollar SkyMiles members spent on Delta Vacations bookings would count toward Medallion status, but only if they booked direct with Delta Vacations. Only the flight portion would count toward the accrual of Medallion Qualifying Dollars on travel agency bookings.ย
Travel advisors feared losing Delta Vacations clients who are motivated to earn as many MQDs as possible. Now advisors don’t have to worry.
“We heard your concerns and acknowledge the disappointment that many of you expressed around this change,” Winters wrote. “We understand the importance of our trusted relationship, and that this change was not aligned with your expectations from that partnership.”
Now, SkyMiles members booking with a travel advisor will earn MQDs on flight and non-flight portions of vacation packages, including hotels, cars and activities.
Winters said Delta Vacations would communicate with SkyMiles members who had booked with a travel advisor to inform them about the change. Marketing materials will also be provided to advisors to spread the word.
“Trust is foundational to our relationship, and we are committed to you and your business,” Winters said. “I appreciate the candid conversations that helped to inform the program modifications. We appreciate all that you do. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.”
