Consumer experts at NetVoucherCodes.co.uk have found booking a holiday mid week and splitting the trip in half could be the solution to saving on expensive travel fees – but check out the rest of their tips below.
Tell people it’s your honeymoon
Telling travel agents, flight attendants and hotel staff it’s your honeymoon is a great way to snag some cheeky freebies and upgrades so don’t be afraid to let them know it’s a special occasion!
Go incognito
While it does not always work, refreshing the page incognito or private mode may drive the prices down on flights due to algorithms and cookie systems.
Spread the costs
There are several options available for a cheap deposit and then paying on a monthly basis to spread out the costs. This can make managing the payments easier rather than making a big payout all at once.
Book off-peak season trips
If you’re getting married in the peak holiday season, honeymoons will be more expensive. Consider having a weekend away in the UK after your wedding and save the honeymoon for later on in the year. This will bring down the prices significantly and it’ll give you something to look forward to. A lot of popular honeymoon destinations like the Maldives and Bali are best to visit in October and November anyway.
Split the holiday in half
Half-holidays where you visit one destination for a week and then go for a nearby location for the rest is really popular amongst honeymooners and it can save hundreds off the trip. You could mix it up by taking a beach holiday and then spending the rest of the trip on a city break.
Book well in advance
Most people tend to plan weddings around one to two years in advance, try to make time to plan your honeymoon during this period. This way you’re more likely to end up with a better deal.
Pay on a credit card
If you’re able to pay off the costs, paying via credit card will boost your credit score and help manage monthly payments. In worst-case scenarios, if an airline happens to go bust, the credit card company will cover the costs under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
Vacuum pack clothes
Luggage costs can rack up hundreds on a trip if you’re paying for four people to have 25kg. Vacuum packing the clothes can allow for extra space and prevent heavy baggage from driving up the costs.
Compare airline prices
It’s not always just the budget airlines which provide the best prices, so search around to find which deals work best for you. It could be worth getting a connecting flight to knock £100 off the travel costs.
Book flights mid-week
Tuesday and Wednesday nights are the best times to book the cheapest flights, with midnight recommended as the right time to secure a top bargain.
