The gorgeous European city beloved by Brits as it’s the ‘German version of York’

This beautiful German city is perfect for a European break packed with narrow cobbled streets and charming independent shops which have seen it compared with York.

Bremen in Germany features gorgeous impressionist architecture and half-timbered buildings with calming views of the River Weser visible from its harbour.

The city even has one of the best-loved Christmas markets in Germany making it perfect for a festive visit.

One impressed visitor told the Guardian it was the “German version of York” describing the city as “small but perfectly formed”.

The city is also packed with cultural offerings such as the brilliant Pier 2 music venue, which is based in an old shipping container in Bremen’s docks and the Böttcherstraße which is packed with art galleries and obscure architecture.
