Travelodge opens hotel on same street as Del Boy’s home in Only Fools and Horses

Travelodge is super handy when you’re staying in a city in the UK and want to get a cheap deal. Now, they’re opening another branch in a rather unexpected location – Peckham, London.

The setting of the famous sitcom Only Fools & Horses fans of the show may want to take a walk around Del Boy’s old stomping ground. London Peckham Travelodge is situated on Peckham High Street – location of the character’s home The Nelson Mandela House and his favourite pub, restaurant and cafe – The Nags Head, The Star of Bengal and Sid’s Cafe known as the The Fatty Thumb.

You might be thinking that as the show is 42 years old its fans might be growing scarce, but a study by Travelodge found that 73% of Brits still like to watch it. Plus, 55% of adults say they watch an episode to help them relax before bed.

Over half, 58% of Britons stated that Only Fools and Horses is ageless and is still relatable in today’s modern world. So we suppose that the new Peckham Travelodge might just be popular!

The nation also voted Del Boy as their favourite character from the sitcom, followed by Trigger and then Rodney Trotter. Uncle Albert was voted the fourth favourite character and Grandad took fifth position.

The top episode of the show was decided to be the scene when Del Boy fell through the bar in ‘Yuppy Love’. This was the first episode in the sixth series first aired on the 8th January 1989 with a viewing figure of 14 million.

The new hotel will have 52 rooms available to book from £55 a night. Which isn’t bad for a London-based hotel. You can already book rooms on

Other things to do around Peckham include the South London Gallery which showcases contemporary art. Plus, discover the areas street art and graffiti.

Local galleries MOCA London and the Copeland Gallery feature regular exhibitions. Bizarrely, those wanting a taste distinctly not-London style can pop over to the Kanpai London Sake brewery which serves the Japanese liquor.

The hotel is one of three Travelodge hotels the group intends to open in London this year. The other two Travelodge hotels are situated at the iconic Oval Cricket Ground and Beckenham – which has been voted as one of the best places to live in London.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge, Spokeswoman said: "We are delighted to open the first branded hotel in London Peckham, which has fast become one of London’s trendiest neighbourhood’s. This opening is our 597th Travelodge hotel and our 80th property in London.

"We thought it would be fitting to mark Travelodge coming to Peckham by conducting a study on ‘Only Fools and Horses’, a pillar of British telly which was set in Peckham. Interestingly our findings revealed that the 80’s sitcom is still as popular today.

"It is Britons go to programme when they need a good laugh and they will regularly watch an episode of Only Fools and Horses before bedtime to help them relax.

“As we look ahead, London remains a key growth area and we are currently searching for a further 127 sites across the capital to open a Travelodge hotel. This expansion programme would more than double Travelodge’s presence in London and could represent an investment of nearly £3 billion for third party investors and create over 6,000 new jobs.”
