Looking for a cultural autumn staycation? New research has revealed the UK’s most cultured city and it’s not London.
The printing experts at Aura Print ranked the UK’s most creative and artistic cities, looking at factors like the number of galleries, museums, theatres and comedy clubs.
The team also looked at the cities’ street art scenes and their popularity on TikTok as well as the number of creative job opportunities.
Manchester was named the UK’s most creative city with a huge number of art galleries and museums compared to the number of residents.

Manchester Art Gallery is home to a huge collection of fine art, spanning six centuries of creativity including contemporary works.
‘CheshireSue_W’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “A real gem with a fabulous collection of art with purpose, relevance and meaning. Some thought-provoking ideas about communities and the role of women.”
Manchester Museum is one of the UK’s largest university museums and covers natural science and culture.
A tourist ‘runkaterun’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Fabulous free museum. The volunteers were amazing so knowledgeable and generous with their time.”

Other top spots include the spectacular John Rylands Library, the National Football Museum and the Science and Industry Museum.
While London didn’t take the top spot, it did make the top five, landing just outside the podium behind Brighton and Bristol.
