A British man is missing after Hamas attacked a music festival where he was working in Israel.
Jake Marlowe, 26, hasn't been heard from since about 5.30am yesterday morning (October 7), the Israeli embassy in the UK told Sky News. It added Jake is "missing near Gaza" after the terrorist group targeted the event as part of their surprise assault on the country.
Tzipi Hotovely, the Israeli ambassador to the UK, said this morning: "I know that Israel is doing everything to make sure all the people being kept hostage at the moment in the hands of Hamas will be released."
Jake was working as part of the security team at the desert festival south of Gaza when the attack took place. An hour before he was last heard from Jake called his mum, Lisa, and told her about the attack on Israel as it unfolded.
Speaking to Jewish News, Lisa said: "He was doing security at this rave yesterday and called me at 4.30am to say all these rockets were flying over. Then, at about 5.30am, he texted to say, 'Signal very bad, everything OK, will keep you updated I promise you,' and that he loves me."
She added: "I don’t know what we’re supposed to be doing. I've got people in Israel phoning the home guard command, others talking to others, everyone’s just trying to help as much as they can."
Lisa said her son's girlfriend and her friends had posted online about his disappearance in a bid to bring him home safely. The worried mum is also being supported by police.
Family members have been checking hospital lists while friends have confirmed they are not in contact with Jake. Jake's friend Shlomi, who was also working at the festival, is also missing, his girlfriend Liran said.
North Londoner Jake had relocated to northern Israel after visiting in 2013.
