A British holidaymaker cheated death after being shot twice during a trip to New York City.
Cameron Robertson, 41, said he was "lucky to be alive" after masked gunmen fired two hollow point bullets into him in Brooklyn on September 17. He and wife Jill Robertson, 42, were walking back to their hotel at the time.
The financial services manager believes he may have been caught up in an attempted hit on local police officers. It was only after diving for cover he realised he had been shot, feeling a "sharp, hot needle" sensation in his arm.

"It’s all a bit of a blur, but I remember realising and telling my wife I thought I’d been shot before going to the ground and lying down," he said. "I feel very lucky to be alive. Neither of the bullets hit any bones or arteries causing any major or life-threatening injuries."
Police strapped Cameron up before he was rushed to hospital where medics found another bullet lodged in his thigh. Miraculously, as the bullets missed anything major, he was able to fly back to the UK the next day.
Cameron said: "The bullet was a hollow point designed to do maximum damage and luckily didn’t engage. Had it engaged it would have splintered off hitting my femur and main artery."
Hollow point bullets are a type of expanding bullet. This means they can cause more damage without penetrating further than necessary.
Police told Cameron that 10 shots had been fired in total. The NYPD is still searching for the assailants.
Cameron had the bullet removed from his leg when he returned to the UK. It has now been sent back to the NYPD to aid their investigation.
He added: "The incident hasn’t put us off travelling back to the States, although we’ve probably exhausted New York and have other places we’d want to visit."
A spokesperson for the NYPD said: "The New York City Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the individuals in connection with an assault that occurred within the confines of the 79 Precinct.
"It was reported to police that on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at approximately 12.02am, two unknown male individuals were walking in the vicinity of Herkimer Street and Nostrand Avenue when they displayed firearms and discharged multiple rounds, striking a 41-year-old male in the right arm and leg.
"The individuals then fled in a grey sedan eastbound on Herkimer Street. The victim was transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Kings County in stable condition."
