A massive emergency service presence has been spotted at Stansted Airport after a Kenya Airways flight was diverted.
The passenger plane had been travelling from Nairobi to the UK earlier today and was escorted by members of the police following its landing just before 3.45pm today (Thursday, October 12).
The flight was due to land in London Heathrow but was instead intercepted and forced to land at Stansted Airport. The massive Boeing 787 was met by Essex Police who were on the runway to help bring the flight in.

A statement from Essex Police read: "We are currently attending an incident at Stansted Airport. A flight travelling from Nairobi to Heathrow was diverted to Stansted this afternoon (Thursday 12 October)."
Stansted Airport "remains open", police confirmed. A diversion for the Boeing 787 had been called while it was still in the air, with police bringing the flight to a remote stand following its landing.
A London Stansted spokesperson has confirmed the plane, which was escorted by an RAF jet, "landed safely with Essex Police in attendance".
Further confirmation from the spokesperson confirmed the "incident has been stood down and the airport is open and flights are operating as normal."
A statement from Kenya Airways read: "KQ Headquarters received an alert of a potential security threat on board KQ100 operating from Nairobi to London Heathrow. KQ Management in conjunction with the security authorities of the Government of Kenya and the Untied Kingdom carried out a thorough risk assessment of the threat.
"The crew onboard were briefed, and all safety and security precautions were taken to ensure the safety and security of our crew and passengers on board." They confirmed in the same statement the aircraft had "landed safely" at Stansted airport.
The Daily Star has contacted Essex Police and London Stansted for comment.
