Dad ‘wrestled knife’ from Dublin stabbing suspect – images show his jumper cut

A father has emerged as a hero after wrestling the knife from the attacker during the horrifying multiple-stabbing in Dublin yesterday (Thursday, November 23).

Warren Donohoe was out with his family celebrating their daughter's 11th birthday when they witnessed the attack unfold.

His wife Stacey Power told DublinLive: "I saw what looked like a woman and a man fighting across the road. And I said to the kids, come close and stand beside me. And then I just, I saw him just grabbing the child and stabbing her.

"I screamed, I said, Warren, he’s stabbing her! He's stabbing the child. And Warren ran straight across the road. He didn't even think."

Warren tackled the attacker and pulled him away from the child. In images shared by Stacey, a cut from the knife is visible right across the jumper he was wearing at the time. Thankfully Warren has no injuries, but Stacey said he’s been "sore all over" and did not speak for the rest of the day.

The incident occurred around 1.30pm close to Parnell Square East. Three children and an adult woman were injured, the woman and a five-year-old girl seriously. In an update today, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said the pair were both still in a serious condition.

Garda said a man in his 50s who also sustained serious injuries was the only person of interest in their investigation. Ireland's premier Leo Varadkar confirmed a suspect was detained at the scene.

Disorder broke out close to Parnell Square East later in the evening, with masked yobs clashing with Gardaí and setting vehicles on fire. Stacey said of the chaos: "I think that's ridiculous and I think they're taking away from what happened to them kids. Sending a message by smashing up shops? By putting families out of work? It doesn’t make sense. What if the same incident happened somewhere else and you had no police cars then to send as help?"
