US forces in Iraq have come under attack again by Iranian-backed terrorists who launched rockets and clashed with soldiers at the base.
According to local media, militants calling themselves the al-Dafirin attacked the base with bombs or missiles before exchanging fire with US forces in the base.
US bases in the region have been targeted multiple times in the last 24 hours. The attacks come as a spokesman for Hamas’s military wing – the al-Qassam Brigades – called for escalation on “all resistance fronts”.
While Iranian-backed militias in the region have been launching missiles and drones at American bases in Iraq and Syria, any ground offensive against a base would mark a major escalation.
Militants reportedly fired mortars, RPGs and drones at the base before launching an assault, according to local media.

The Al-Dhaferin Militia said that at least one of its fighters was killed in the clashes with US troops.
The attack comes a day after the US launched airstrikes on Iranian-linked targets in Iraq following a missile attack on Al Asad Airbase two days ago.
The airstrikes in Iraq were a departure from the typical US response of attacking targets in Syria.
Following the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas, militia groups in Iraq and Syria – part of the anti-Israel, anti-US Axis of Resistance led by Iran – have attacked American and coalition forces regularly.

Barely 24 hours before that airstrike, a US gunship witnessed militants launching ballistic missiles at the base and responded with a strike, killing three.
A Pentagon spokeswoman said that the AC-130 gunship was already in the air and was able to respond to the attack immediately.
Sabrina Singh said: “We had an aircraft that was able to identify where the close-range ballistic missile was being shot from, and therefore we were able to take action.”
The escalating exchanges come as Israel’s enemies threat to expand the war against Tel Aviv and, by extension, Washington. Fighters in Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria have all exchanged fire with Israeli or US forces since the war began.
