The Met Office has issued its latest verdict on the likelihood of a White Christmas.
The chances of snow on December 25 appear better than average this year with many Brits now hoping they could be blanketed in the white stuff on the big day. This is thanks to a Polar plume making its way down across Scotland on December 23, the day before Christmas Eve, the Daily Star previously reported.
This means cities like Edinburgh are likely to see the white stuff in the lead-up to Christmas Day. It's less exciting news for those living further south – in areas such as Manchester and Yorkshire, torrential downpours are more likely on that day.

The forecast for Christmas Day itself is unclear, with the festive celebration still more than two weeks away. However, the Met Office hasn't ruled out snow and ice just yet.
In its long-range forecast – which runs from December 20 to January 3 – the forecaster conditions are likely to be "unsettled."
"The chance of a colder spell of weather, with hazard such as snow and ice, does increase later in December and into the New Year period," it said. However, while there is hope yet for snow on December 25, the weather experts said conditions are more likely to remain "mild and wet".

Looking to the more immediate future, the weekend is expected to bring yet more downpours after lashings of rain saw multiple yellow weather warnings issued up and down the country. Temperatures could reach a very mild 13C – which would rule out snow for the time being, the Daily Star previously reported.
"Unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, with the best of any sunshine reserved for the east," the Met Office wrote in its forecast for the weekend. "Generally windy with coastal gales across Wales and the southwest. Mild."
