New maps show exact date Britain will sizzle as temps start to soar

Met Office: Quieter spell, then rain on the way

New weather maps show the exact date when parts of Britain could sizzle as the mercury rises over the coming days with a possible high of 25C early next week.

Weather maps suggest the autumn warmth might persist into the first week of October and possibly beyond as a warmer spell appears to be on the cards for part of the UK.

Greg Dewhurst, Senior Operational Meteorologist at the Met Office, told Express.co.uk it is possible south east England could see 25C.

He said: “It stays mixed through the rest of this week, with temperatures generally above average and reaching the low twenties at times across southern parts of the UK.

“There are signs that if we get enough sunshine on Monday (details uncertain at this stage) we could see temperatures climb to around 25C in the southeast of England but then fresher air moving in soon after this.”

Mr Dewhurst added: “Beyond this it becomes too uncertain to give details on numbers themselves, but it could be warm at times in the south, though this may lead to it being chilly at night under any clearer skies.”

WXCharts, which uses data from MetDesk, show maximum temperatures on October 7 of 21C in south east England while western Britain is expected to see the mercury rise around the mid-teens.

Temperatures in Scotland and Northern Ireland range from 9-13C, according to WX Charts.

Until that point, temperatures across much of the country will vary around the mid-to-late teens, with overnight lows in the north of Britain sending the mercury down into single digits in some areas.

The Met Office’s long range forecast, updated at 3pm on Thursday (September 28), shows the period October 3-12 beginning with a cool west to northwesterly flow, with sunshine and showers.

These are expected to be most frequent in the northwest with drier conditions elsewhere.

The forecaster stated: “Winds are likely to gradually turn southwesterly, with a settled interlude (a small chance this could develop into a prolonged settled spell), most likely deteriorating into further periods of changeable or even unsettled weather by the weekend of the 7th and 8th.

“Towards the end of this period, signals show a potential trend towards drier weather in the north and wetter conditions in the south, although precisely when is, typically for the forecast range, very low confidence.

“Temperatures likely to be above average overall, perhaps very warm at times in the south, though some cool nights and chance of early fog.”

Meanwhile, the outlook on Friday (September 29) is for a largely dry day with spells of sunshine for Northern Ireland, England and Wales. There is just the small chance of a light shower, according to MeteoGroup UK.

Scattered showers are expected across Scotland throughout the day, especially in the west where they may become heavy at times. Westerly winds will be moderate.

Friday night shows some showers persisting in Scotland in the evening but it will be generally dry elsewhere with sunny spells in the north but cloudy in the south.

Cloud is expected to build through the night covering most of the UK by Saturday morning. There will be a light to gentle south-westerly breeze

The outlook for the weekend is overcast with the odd light shower on Saturday morning but heavy rain and possible thunder pushing in over most of the north and west. It will remain dry in the south east.

It will be mostly overcast on Sunday morning with showers to the west, heavy in Wales. A cloudy rest of the day with light scattered showers, according to MeteoGroup UK.
